PORT ROYAL, SC (WTOC) - A man accused of stealing of Port Royal fire truck on Friday and fatally hitting a man is being charged with murder, authorities said at a news conference Tuesday afternoon.

Representatives from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Beaufort County Sheriff's Office, Beaufort County Solicitor's Office, Port Royal Police Depart, Beaufort City Police Dept. and the Port Royal Fire Dept. are speaking about the case.

Authorities said Justin Miller, 28, of Port Royal, was fatally struck Friday evening by a stolen fire engine from the Port Royal Fire Department driven by Kalvin Hunt, 26, who is a U.S. Marine. They said Hunt stole the fire truck while Beaufort firefighters were dealing with an emergency at the Lauren Hills Apartments.

Police said Hunt, who was naked, hopped in the fire truck and sped off, down Ribaut Road. They said he hit six vehicles and ultimately slammed into Miller, who was walking on the sidewalk with his brother. The truck then hit trees near a shopping center.

Hunt was pinned against the trees inside the truck before getting free and assaulting two Beaufort police officers, according to police. He is at MUSC in Charleston. He was served Tuesday morning with the charges.

Three officers and an EMT were injured. All four were treated and released.

Miller's funeral is set for 4 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Latter Day Saints.
