JESUP, GA (WTOC) - Jeremy King is facing multiple charges after Wayne County sheriff's deputies say he brutally murdered his pregnant wife at their home off of Raccoon Trail Sunday morning.
Sheriff John Carter says Bonita King was shot in the head.
"It was unbelievable and I'm sure we are still in shock," said Melvin Yoder, Bonita's father.
Bonita King's family tells WTOC that the couple's marriage was on the rocks, but they were trying to work things out. They say Bonita King was two months pregnant and was looking forward to having another baby.
"She was such a good person. She loved her baby and would do anything for her child. She was such a good mother and would do anything for anybody," said Yoder. "Very forgiving and loving. Would have given her last penny to help someone."
Investigators say she texted her brother to come and get her. When she didn't answer her phone, her family said that her brother knew something was terribly wrong.
When deputies arrived, they found Bonita King dead in the back yard. They say her 2-year-old son was in the home unharmed.
"He will know who his mother was, he will know what kind of person she was. If Bonnie could speak to us today, she would say just take care of my baby," said Yoder.
The sheriff said Jeremy King took off into the woods when they got to the scene. Deputies searched the nearby woods and arrested him. He is charged with murder, fetacide, use and possession of a firearm and fleeing police. He is being held at the Wayne County Jail.
Visitation for Bonita King will take place between 5:30 p.m. ant 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Unity Church of God in Jesup. The funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at the same location.
