BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) - Family and friends gathered Monday to mourn the loss of Chelsie Pitruzella, 18, and Kayleeanna Hudson-Banks, 15, during a candlelight vigil. The Beaufort High students and another friend were out Saturday night when Pitruzella lost control of the car and hit a tree. The two teens died and their community can't believe they are gone.
"It is surreal. I think it will get worse before it gets better. It's a world away from New York. She had a hard time fitting in New York because she was very unique. I think the people here really appreciated her, embraced her and loved her just like she loved them," said Deborah Banks, victim's mother.
The third student, Megan Trimmer, 17, was also hurt in the wreck. They flew her to Memorial Health in Savannah. Friends say she is recovering.
