BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - Thunderstorms rumbled through Monday evening, taking down a giant oak tree near Boundary Street in Beaufort.

Crews went right to work to cut it up and clear the road. The neighbors say they know why it came down.

"I was looking at the TV and I got up and went to the door. I saw lightning hit the tree right there. When it hit it, it fell over," said Bertha Prince, Beaufort.

The good news is no one was hurt. The limbs did come down on power lines and knocked people into the dark for a short period of time. The lights are now back on and the road is back open.
