Downtown Savannah transformed into 1970s Bowery for CBGB movie

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Movie magic has moved Congress Street in downtown Savannah more than 800 miles north and nearly four decades back in time. The filmmakers behind the movie CBGB, now filming in Savannah, have recreated New York's Bowery neighborhood during its gritty days in the 1970s. Even the businesses surrounding the club have been resurrected, including the Palace Hotel.

"We put what is called a plug into the front of the building here. They created a stucco wall, an entrance and an awning and put it on top of an existing storefront to recreate the front of CBGB," said Andre Danylevich, CBGB associate producer.
