PORT ROYAL, SC (WTOC) - The Fourth of July festivities got off to a soggy start in Port Royal. Heavy rains forced some folks to head on home before the fireworks started. The show did go on, but it started a little earlier than planned. The town of Port Royal stepped up after Parris Island canceled its Fourth of July party because of federal budget cuts.
"We came up to just get away for the weekend, see the fireworks and hang out with my girlfriend's family. It has been really good," said Kenneth Long, visiting for Fourth of July.
Earlier in the evening, the Parris Island Marine Band performed a mix of patriotic and popular music at The Sands beach.
