Construction to begin on movie studio next month
EFFINGHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - Master plans for a film studio complex were approved by the Property Committee of the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority in Effingham County and construction is set to begin next month.
The committee's approval of Mediant Studios Inc. project was the last of several critical steps moving forward with construction.
A lease will be signed on Aug. 19 for the Studioplex and a groundbreaking ceremony on the 1,550-acre property is scheduled for Aug. 29, according to a news release from company.
Engineering, clearing and grading of the property has already been initiated. A $300 million bond approved by the Industrial Development Authority has since been ratified by the Courts on July 15, according to the release.
Manu Kumaran, chairman of Medient Studios Inc., said in a statement that the company is confident that the facility will be in operation by the first quarter of 2014.
