BULLOCH CO., GA (WTOC) - A man is accused of burglarizing the On the Go Food Mart early Friday morning and stealing cigarettes and alcohol.

Bulloch County sheriff's deputies responded at 2:53 a.m. Friday to the store in the 7000 block of State Route 67 on a report that the burglar alarm was going off.

Deputies found the front door shattered and cigarettes and alcohol had been stolen.

The store's surveillance video showed a man using an ax to shatter the door before stealing merchandise, according to the BCSO.

Investigator John Quattlebaum was processing the scene for evidence, and deputies saw a man who looked identical and was wearing the same clothes as the suspect in the surveillance video in the area.

Christopher Lavon Evans, 23, of Statesboro, was detained for investigation. A search of the residence where Evans was staying the night turned up stolen items from the convenience store, according to the BCSO.

He's charged with burglary and second-degree criminal damage to property. He was taken to the Bulloch County Jail where he is being held without bond.
