Body found on HHI, reports indicate accidental drowning

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - On Oct. 19 the deceased body of an adult male was found on the beach between Burke's Beach and Folly Field around 9:45 Saturday night.

Preliminary investigations by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office revealed the male went for a swim around 9 p.m. and did not return.

According to police the body was found just prior to a female acquantance made a call to Emergency Dispatch to report he had not returned from the swim. It was disclosed that alcohol was consumed by the male, prior to entering the water.

Identity of the male will be available after the next of kin is notified.

Reports at this time indicate this to be an accidental drowning with no foul play suspected. A forensic autopsy will be performed.
