MLK shooting victim dies in hospital

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Savannah-Chatham Metro detectives are investigating the shooting of a Savannah man that happened early Friday morning.

Marvin Hills, 24, was found with a gunshot wound in a car on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard after off-duty officers investigated shots they heard about 3 a.m.

According to his family, Hills died from his wounds at Memorial University Medical Center.

Hills had been released on parole in June after pleading guilty to robbery, burglary, hijacking a motor vehicle and cocaine possession.

Hills' grandmother, Shirley Smith, he was a "good boy."

"He doesn't bother nobody," Smith said. "And that boy shot him in the head like that for no reason."

Smith said Hills was shot as he rode home from Club Island Breeze, where he was watching his cousin perform a rap show.

Off-duty officers were also at the club and ran over to investigate after they heard the shots.
