SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Because of the winter storm affecting much of Georgia, delivery of mail from the Georgia Department of Human Services Division of Family and Child Services will be delayed.

State office closures on Thursday and Friday will also impact the processing of recent Food Stamp and Medicaid applications.

Because mail carriers will not be able to access agency mail, the routing of approximately 130,000 notices to clients of the Food Stamp, Medicaid and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families programs in Georgia will be delayed.

Majority of the notices that are being delayed contain information informing customers of changes to their current cases, with less than one percent of reminders for January or February food stamp renewals being affected. Affected clients will not suffer a loss of benefits due to the delay.

Clients will still be able to access their notices electronically by logging on to their My Compass accounts and checking recent notices of changes.
