WOLF ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - A rescue at sea iscaught on camera by the Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources.
They helped a young NorthAtlantic Right Whale that got trapped in some fishing rope.
The dramatic video wastaken off of Georgia's Wolf Island, which is just south of Sapelo Island. Wildlifebiologists worked to cut away most of the more than 100 yards of heavy fishingrope the animal was dragging.
Responders could notremove all of the rope because the whale avoided the boats and the rope islikely entangled in its baleen - the filter-feeding structures inside themouths of baleen whales.
The hope is the whaleknown to researchers as No. 4057 will shed the rest of the rope on its own.
The 4-year-old male whale isone of only about 450 remaining North Atlantic Right Whales.
