WAYNE CO., GA (WTOC) - A woman was killed when she was hit by a train during thefilming of Meddin Studios' "Midnight Rider", the Gregg Allman biopic.
A group was hit by the train on the train trestle over theAltamaha River near the Doctortown Road crossing in Wayne County while theywere filming a dream sequence that involved a mattress on the tracks.
The train struck the woman and the mattress, sending debrisflying in all directions, injuring several people and killing the woman.
Wayne County Sheriff John Carter said another person wastaken by Lifestar to Memorial University Medical Center. Seven other people,all crew members, were transported to an area hospital with injuries, two withserious injuries.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating this as ahomicide.
"We treat any suspicious type of thing or serious accident asa homicide until we prove otherwise," said Det. Joe Gardner. "And thatreasoning is always, I guess, to ensure that we err on the side of caution."
Meddin Studios' Creative Director said today's shoot on thetrestle was coordinated with CSX Railroad and Raynioner. The Sheriff's Office confirmedthat the crew had both companies' permission to film.
The train was on the way from Memphis to Savannah when theincident happened.
A CSX spokesman released a statement saying the company iscooperating fully with investigators.
