Beaufort Elementary School honored with TAP Award

BEAUFORT, SC (WTOC) - Beaufort Elementary School is now one of four nationalschools recognized for its student achievement and teacher effectiveness.

Known as TAP, or the System for Teacher and StudentAdvancement, Principal Gary McCulloch accepted the school's TAP AmbassadorAward Saturday at the 14th National TAP Conference in Los Angeles.

Tuesday, McCulloch made the formal announcement in front ofthe school's 630 plus students and teachers.

Since adopting TAP in 2010, Beaufort Elementary has focusedon creating leadership roles and tailoring professional development goals on aweekly basis.

"It's exciting," said Beaufort Elementary fifth grader KaiyaJohnson. "I'm proud of my school, I'm proud of myself because we have accomplishedso much over the years and it's just like OMG! We did it!"

"I was certainly numb by the honor that it is for our schooland our community to be recognized in our nation," said McCulloch.

The TAP Award also comes with a $5,000 prize.
