BEAUFORT CO., SC (WTOC) - The Lowcountry Area Transportation Study Metropolitan Planning Organization will determine how the area will spend federal transportation dollars until 2040.

It is the first new metropolitan planning organization in South Carolina in 20 years.

The long-range transportation plan (LRTP) will identify transportation needs and provide financial policy to address these needs, according to a news release. As part of that information gathering process, the panel wants to hear from the public about transportation priorities, problems and projects.

The public can participate by viewing the interactive map to share what projects and locations should be included in the LRTP. View the map here.

You can also offer feedback by taking the online questionnaire.

LATS MPO website has details about the organization. As the transportation plan is developed, there will maps, presentations and documents posted on the website.

There's also a Facebook page for the project, where you can post commentary, share photos and get the latest news.
