Scrap metal catches fire at Garden City recycling plant

GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) - Garden City Fire Department was called out to a fire at a recycling plant on Sunday morning.

According to Garden City Fire Chief James Crosby, they responded to a fire around 4 a.m. at Newell Recycling of Savannah on Sonny Perdue Drive. When fire crews got to the scene, they noticed scrap metal and plastic fully engulfed in flames. Fire crews were on the scene for about 8 hours, wind was a major factor.

The Pooler Fire Department was also dispatched and provided assistance.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

No injuries were reported.
