GUYTON, GA (WTOC) - It was all about first graders in the Reading Recovery Program at Guyton Elementary on Monday.
The program gives teachers a chance to assess reading, and observe and address reading issues in children.
During Monday's celebration there was plenty to do, and students did an outstanding job.
"We started the day with a pup-rally," said Reading Recovery organizer Regina Fox. "We had a disc dog show, now they are participating in rotations where they get to read their stories they wrote in a Clifford dog house and read to therapy dogs."
The students were given a book and a stuffed animal for over the summer.
Each student in the program is hand-selected through an application process.
