Across Georgia, the number of traffic deaths from the Memorial Day holiday weekend tripled from last year, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Over the four day travel period, there were 17 traffic deaths on Georgia's highways and roads. Last year, there were six.
Troopers want people to continue practicing safe driving habits like wearing seat belts, no drinking and driving or texting.
Since the highways are expected to stay busy with travelers with more upcoming summer holidays, they're making plans to step up patrols.
