SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Chatham Area Transit Authority has some exciting new proposals that they presented at a public meeting Thursday night. They will help the thousands of people that use the service every day.
The first proposal will extend CAT's Airport Express service. The route takes passengers directly to Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport for cheaper than a cab. At only $3, the route has run from Monday to Saturday sense last October. CAT officials want to include Sunday. With new numbers being released this week that show the number of people flying in and out of Savannah is spiking, CAT officials think this is a necessary change.
The second proposal would create an express route from downtown Savannah to the Savannah Mall. There is already an express route that runs from the islands into downtown and now they want that same service for the Westside.
"We are hoping with the new development and restaurants going into the Savannah mall that people will utilize this to get to the Southside and see that part," said Ramond Robinson, the Chief Development Officer for Chatham Area Transit Authority.
These are simply proposals and there will be another public meeting in July. CAT officials encourage anyone that uses the transit system to attend and offer suggestions.
