Surveillance video released of Bluffton Enmark break-in
BLUFFTON, SC (WTOC) - Surveillance has now been released showing a man breaking into the Enmark on Commerce Place in Bluffton on Tuesday morning.
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office said the man got into the store by creating a hole in the back wall, and he left with beer.
The surveillance video shows the man used a crowbar to get in the building. Once he was inside, he only wanted beer and some Slim Jims.
Sheriff's deputies said the man knew exactly what he was doing. He searched for cameras, and when he spotted one, he knocked it down.
"He made entry through the rear of the building, we believe using a crowbar or sledgehammer, some type of instrument to break through the brick wall," said Beaufort County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Robin McIntosh.
Once the man got inside the store, he crawled to the front of the store in an attempt not to trigger the motion sensor cameras. That did not work.
He also didn't get very far in the store. Something spooked him, so he grabbed some Slim Jims and ran out. However, he makes a return and spends some time trying to figure out what kind of beer he wants. He ultimately settles on a $16.99 12-pack of Budweiser.
This break-in is similar to the ones in Jasper County that occurred a few weeks ago. The Advance Auto Parts, Family Dollar and the old SCE&G building were all broken into in the exact same way.
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is working with law enforcement in Jasper County.
"There's always a possibility that we have common suspects," said McIntosh. "It's definitely a common mode of entry for these incidents."
There have been no arrests made in the Bluffton break-in, nor any of the ones in Jasper County. If anyone has any information about any of these break-ins, you're asked to call CrimeStoppers or you local law enforcement agency.
