JESUP, GA (WTOC) - The community of Jesup is still in shock Tuesday night after the Historic District of downtown Jesup burned to the ground Monday night in a massive fire.

Seven businesses were destroyed. Two other vacant spaces also are a complete loss. Right now, fire investigators do not know what caused the fire; just that it started at the Fair Haven Market Thrift Store. More than 150 firefighters from eight counties were called in to help put out the massive blaze.

"It has happened to the community, and the community rallies around each other and helps support everyone, and just tries to take care of the workers to provide them everything that they need to do this safely; and it will be rebuilt; it will be taken care of. You can't replace old buildings, but you can replace material things; but the memories will always be here," said Cindy Bacon, Jesup resident.

About 30 people are without a job because of the fire.
