United Way Working Wonders during Campaign kick-off

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The United Way of the Coastal Empire announcing their campaign goal and this year it's in the 8's.

WTOC's Dawn Baker helped emcee the kick-off of a campaign determined to Work Wonders in our community.

It was the largest turnout yet, with 12,000 people filling Savannah Civic Center for the 2014 United Way kick-off campaign.

This year's message is Together Working Wonders. In fact, the campaign chair, Jenny Gentry of Wells Fargo, made a Wonder Woman entry into the Civic Center as she announced this year's goal of raising $8,888,888, the largest fundraising goal the United Way has ever set.

The donations will help support human service programs that improve the lives of people in Bryan, Chatham, Effingham and Liberty counties. The United Way says it's up to employee groups, businesses and individuals across the community to help work wonders in people's lives.

"We are going to be helping thousands of people that really need help in basic human needs, education and health," said Greg Schroeder, President, United Way of the Coastal Empire.

"Last year we were able to provide advocacy services for about 300 children. Unfortunately, early indicators it is going to be more of an issue this year, so we need support from the United Way," said Savannah Chatham County CASA's Ann Robinson.

The campaign hopes to work wonders for the 59 nonprofit organizations in our community. United Way's 2014 Campaign will run from September 4 through November 21. Individuals can pledge a donation by calling 912.651.7714 or visiting www.uwce.org.
