SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Rape Crisis Center partnered with Fleet Feet on Sunday to offer a "Safe on the Run" self defense class helping women feel more at ease during their various activities.

The two hour self defense class is designed to build self confidence, awareness, and personal safety in hopes that it will lower the number of rapes and sexual assaults in the Savannah community.

"I think this is very awesome to teach women how to protect themselves, when they're out moving about to try to be prepared," said Gwendolyn Myers. "You never know what may happen at any given time."

Certified and experienced Krav Maga Instructor Todd Mashburn taught the class at the Jewish Educational Alliance on Abercorn Street.

The Rape Crisis Center encourages anyone to give self defense classes as gifts because awareness towards potentially negative situations is always valuable.

The organization plans to host another self defense course in the spring.
