SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A car caught fire Monday morning right in front of Islands High School.

It happened around 8 a.m. as the driver was trying to make his way to the school.

A man involved in the crash said it all started with just a fender-bender.

“I saw flames and I looked at the driver and I said 'get out, get out now,'" said Hayward, rear-ended by driver whose car caught fire.

Some bystanders were calling Hayward a hero.

"I'm just the guy that got rear-ended. That doesn't make a hero for sure."

Hayward says the kid that hit him simply wasn't paying attention and rear-ended his bright yellow truck. And, he caught the entire aftermath on his cell phone camera.

"This guy rear ended me... and I guess he didn't see my truck, this bright yellow truck," joked Hayward on the cell phone video.

But all jokes aside, this turned into a very serious situation when the car burst into flames.

"He listened and that's the best part. Nobody got hurt so he just ran off and everybody's ok," said Hayward.

The driver that was rear ended got to drive away, meantime, the burned car is going straight to the pound.
