Victim identified in fatal Saint Simons Island plane crash

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - A Brunswick man has died after a plane crash around 1:20 p.m. on Saturday in a neighborhood near the area of the Malcolm McKinnon Airport on Saint Simons Island.

James Ronald Wood, age 68, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash after flying into a residence. Wood was the pilot of the aircraft and owner of the plane.

The aircraft did damage the home but there was no intrusion of the craft into the building, no one inside the home was hurt since no one was home.

Multiple agencies are at the scene of the crash right now including Georgia State Patrol, Glynn County Emergency Management Agency, Glynn
County Fire Department, Glynn County Police Department, the Glynn County Coroner's Office, and then Glynn County Airport Commission.

Officials with the NTSB and FAA are en route to the scene to investigate, there is no word on the cause of the crash at this time.
