HINESVILLE, GA (WTOC)

A woman is in critical condition after a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Highway 84 in Hinesville near mile marker 9, just two miles away from the intersection of Highway 196 and Highway 84.

The wreck happened around 11 a.m. on Saturday. The Hinesville Fire Department, Liberty County Sheriff's Office, Liberty County Emergency Services, and Georgia State Patrol all responded to the scene.

The accident involved a tractor-trailer that lost a tire, causing a Chevy Malibu traveling westbound to swerve into the eastbound lane and hit a Mercedes Sedan.

According to Georgia State Patrol Officer David Harris, the Mercedes was driven by a man with a woman passenger and a baby. The woman, Janice Jones, 57, sustained a fracture to her skull and is in critical condition at Memorial University Medical Center.

The driver of the Mercedes, James Jones, 59, is in stable condition at Memorial University Medical Center and the baby was checked out at the scene of the crash and is expected to be fine.

Four people in the Chevy Malibu were also transported to Memorial from the scene of the crash. The car was being driven by a mother with her three boys inside. Two of the boys have been released from the hospital and one son is still at the hospital along with his mother, who is in stable condition.

The Georgia State Patrol continues to investigate.
