OKATIE, SC (WTOC) - The body of a missing Burton man was found late Friday morning by members of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office and SC Dept. of Natural Resources' dive teams.

Terrel Blake, 34, went missing after fleeing from an attempted traffic stop on Sunday.

SC Highway Patrol troopers attempted to stop a Lincoln being driven by Blake just before 4 a.m. on Dec. 21 near U.S. Highway 278 and Highway 170. According to reports, Blake refused to stop and made a right turn onto Barrel Landing Road.

He lost control of the vehicle, jumped the curb and eventually came to a stop in the woods. Blake exited the vehicle on foot and left a female passenger behind.

A search was conducted, but no contact was made with Blake. Blake's family became concerned after he was not heard from after the incident and reported him missing on Monday. Deputies immediately began to search the area where he reportedly fled.

After deputies found a hat reported to be Blake's in a pond, the search focused on the water. Weather repeatedly hampered the investigation. Dive teams located Blake's body just before 11:30 a.m. on Friday approximately 30 feet from the banks of the pond.

Blake's body has been sent to Charleston for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
