Savannah celebrates 'Georgia Day' with parade

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Folks will hit the streets of Savannah for the annual "Georgia Day Parade" on Wednesday.

The parade began at Forsyth Park at 10:30 a.m. It was held to commemorate the founding of Georgia in 1733, by James Oglethorpe.

Students, along with musicians and local leaders, marched through Savannah's historic squares.

“Well, it keeps history alive in the schools and that way they know where they are from and their heritage and backgrounds and things like that,” said Liz Ross, whose child was in the parade.

Last year, the parade was postponed due to weather, but this year, the cold will hold out, at least for the day.
