TYBEE ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - A sailboat caught fire Sunday on Tybee after someone decided to tow it with the mast up from Tybee Island down Highway 80.

In the process, the sailboat took down power lines and caught fire, snarling traffic near the Lazaretto Creek Bridge. The fire sent up clouds of smoke that could be seen from miles away.

Georgia Power, Tybee Fire Department, and Southside Fire worked fast to get things cleared up. It took crews more than an hour to contain the fire.

No injuries were reported.

Bride-to-be Whitney Lowery, was among those stuck in traffic, and was not going to be able to get to her wedding on time on Tybee. After it was clear, police let Lowery be the first to cross the Bridge so she could make it to her wedding.
