Driver who injured Georgia Ports police officer charged with DUI

GARDEN CITY, GA (WTOC) - The Georgia State Patrol is investigating after a Georgia Ports Authority police officer was injured on Monday.

Officials say that at approximately 3:30 p.m., Corporal William Solomon was severely injured when coordinating routine traffic operations on the Garden City Terminal.

The Georgia Highway Patrol says Solomon was hit by a tractor trailer and the driver of the truck, 63-year-old Robert Lee Turner, was arrested and charged with DUI. He was also charged with operating a vehicle without a tag.

According to the GSP, Turner is at the Chatham County Jail and is being held on a $4,600 bond.

Solomon is from Midway. He was a deputy in Liberty County before he came to work for the ports about 8 months ago.

Solomon is currently in critical condition at Memorial University Medical Center.
