SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Just four days ago, WTOC told you about the Richmond Hill veteran who has had health issues for 10 years and has been fighting unsuccessfully for assistance from the VA for half that time.

Spell passed away at home at 4:37 Tuesday morning after experiencing kidney and heart failure.

Spell's wife, Robin, did not want to go on camera, but she reiterated her husband's hope that him sharing his story might help other veterans having trouble dealing with the VA.

Visitation for the Gulf War veteran will be Thursday from 5 to 8 at the Carter's Funeral Home in Richmond Hill. A funeral is set for 11 a.m. Friday.

Spell was 49-years-old.
