POOLER, GA (WTOC) - Emergency crews responded to I-16 westbound near Mile Marker 159 early Monday morning after a semi overturned.
It happened around 5 a.m. on I-16 between Dean Forest Road and I-95 (closer to I-95). Pooler Police and Pooler Fire responded and say just the trailer of the truck overturned, not the cab. No one was injured but the crash did cause damage to the road.
The semi was in the emergency lane when it overturned, so crews were able to work off to the shoulder. However, one of the westbound lanes of I-16 was closed heading into the morning commute.
Crews were able to lift the trailer upright without having to close both of the westbound lanes. The next step was for crews to fix the heavily cracked and damaged concrete on the right shoulder. Traffic continued to get by in the one open westbound lane and on the left shoulder. Eastbound traffic continued to flow, but was at a crawl near the crash site as well.
The semi was removed and all of I-16 was back open to traffic by 8 a.m. There is no word yet on what caused the trailer to overturn.
