Military Spouses get help from The Landings

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Representatives from The Landings Military Family Relief Fund, Armstrong State University and Savannah Technical College signed a gift agreement on Monday morning for a new scholarship fund designed to support active duty military spouses and help them complete their degrees.

The Landings Military Family Relief Fund will donate a total of $40,000 to the Landings Military Spouse Academic Assistance Fund. The donation will provide tuition assistance to military spouses eligible for The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) program, which has exhausted its benefits.

The Landings Military Spouse Academic Assistance Fund will award a maximum of $2,000 annually for up to two years, for a scholarship total of $4,000 per student.

The Landings Military Family Relief Fund raises money year round to help with different funds and grants to help military families. The Fund was set up in 2007 and has helped over 3,600 people by raising more than $600,000.

"Daily problems they may have for financial shortfalls or even things more serious like a funeral or something or travel they cannot afford," said Tom Osbourne, Chairman of the Landings Military Family Relief Fund.

"Just coming here as a military spouse, new to the area, I am not from Savannah, so, feeling the love and generosity just makes you feel at home," said Paige Wagner, a military spouse.
