SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Violent Crimes detectives with the Savannah-Chatham Metro Police Department are looking for witnesses after a man was shot at Edgewater Trace Apartment Homes on Monday afternoon.

Detectives say the apartment contained a quantity of drugs and items commonly used along with their distribution.

Southside Precinct patrol officers found 21-year-old Marcus Decarl Echols with a gunshot wound in his apartment, located on Abercorn Street, around 5:20 p.m. Detectives are trying to identify anyone who may have left the apartment in that time frame.

Echols' injuries are described as serious.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Crimestoppers at 912.234.2020, or text CRIMES (274637) using the keyword CSTOP2020. Tipsters remain anonymous and may qualify for a cash reward.

A Tip Line also is open directly to investigators at 912.525.3124, and most area clergy have agreed to serve as liaisons for anyone who would like to share information with police anonymously.
