Body identified in Hampton County hit-and-run, police searching for vehicle
HAMPTON CO., SC (WTOC) - The Hampton County coroner has confirmed that a dead body was found after a hit-and-run in the Sandy Run Road area of Hampton County early on Wednesday morning.
According to coroner Ernie Washington, 19-year-old Stephen Smith died of blunt force trauma to the head, most likely from a mirror on a passing vehicle. The make and model of the vehicle involved in the accident is unknown at this time.
An autopsy was performed on Wednesday afternoon at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston. Police continue to investigate.
