SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Another person is officially in the running for Savannah City Council.

Alicia Blakely held a press conference on Tuesday at City Hall to announce her candidacy for Alderwoman at Large Post 2. Blakely is the president of the Savannah Chapter of the National Action Network, a civil rights organization founded by Rev. Al Sharpton.

She said it's that experience working directly with our community that makes her the best candidate for the city council seat.

"I am a people's politician, I'm not the normal politician," she said. "As a matter of fact, I'm here for the people. I heard the cry, God gave me the vision, and he's giving me the provision so I'm here for the people."

If elected, Blakely said she wants to increase pay for Metro Police officers and Savannah City workers. She's one of four people running so far for the At Large Post 2 position.

The election is Nov. 3.
