STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - An international performing group brings music and more to Statesboro this week.
Most people who've heard of "Up With People" think of international young people performing on stage. But the group visiting Statesboro this week shows they're more than that.
Ten cast members showed a different kind of artistic skills as they panted ceiling tiles for a mural at the Boys and Girls Club. The cast of more than 100 will spend the week doing service projects around town and will talk to students about their home countries.
They arrived Monday afternoon, but already like what they've seen of Statesboro.
"They're super polite to us. I don't know, you can just feel the Southern hospitality," said Janne Van Doorslaer, from Belgium.
Local folks love the enthusiasm they bring to the projects they are aiding.
"We're always happy to have volunteers over and we can definitely find something for you to do. That's how it happened. I gave them a project to do and they took it and ran with it," said Rashaunah Oglesby, Boys and Girls Club.
They also hope they bring attention to each cause they help, and get local people excited to help for weeks and months to come.
Their visit wraps up with a concert Friday night at 7 p.m. at Statesboro High School.
