SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - One woman on a kayak trip from Maine to Guatemala made her stop in Savannah on Wednesday.
Deborah Walters is doing the unbelievable.
Maine is home for her and the paddling journey has taken seven months thus far and will take her another four months to get to Guatemala.
Her reasoning behind the trip is to raise money for children living in deplorable conditions she originally visited 12 years ago.
The funds raised from the awareness this trip creates will allow the children to get out the dumpster they are living in and go to school.
Walters described how bad things really are by saying, "this is an enormous garbage dump and it is right in the middle of Guatemala City of nine million people. The dump is in a huge ravine, all of the garbage, medical waste, industrial waste comes and is dumped completely unsorted."
