New Hutchinson Island public safety facility plans unveiled
CHATHAM CO., GA (WTOC) - The City of Savannah unveiled its plans for the new Hutchinson Island Public Safety Facility.
This after the City and Savannah Harbor Associates reached an agreement to donate the land for development.
The 1.6 acre plot will be turned into a joint police and fire station.
Officials with both departments say they're excited to join as one force and better serve those living on Hutchinson Island.
"Having a facility over here will certainly cut down on the time it takes to get here. It will also allow us to be able to staff this place completely with the development of the hotels and everything that's coming. So this is really a positive move for us. We're kind of getting ahead of development," said Chief Charles Middleton, Savannah Fire and Emergency Services.
Plans are already being developed for the properties around the new facility. That announcement will be made early next year.
