SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Flags proudly line Broughton Street, and soon parade floats and bands will as well to honor all those who have served in the United States military.
The 2015 Savannah Veterans Day Parade will begin at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday from the corner of Abercorn and Gwinnett streets. If you want to see it you will need to go down and get your spot before 10 a.m. to ensure you get a good seat. Roads will be closing early throughout the downtown area in preparation for the parade.
At 11 a.m. the parade will stop and a moment of silence will be reflected to honor all veterans in this community and beyond. That moment of silence will be followed by the playing of taps.
The parade route will travel from Abercorn Street to Liberty Street, then turn onto Montgomery Street and finish up at Broughton and East Broad streets. The Grand Marshal this year is Vietnam Marine Corps Veteran Allen Harvey. He will be joined by three honorary marshals, the Merritt Brothers, owners of Nine Line Apparel, and Kevin Ryan who is the CEO of Service Brewing Company.
WTOC spoke to Ryan about how great it is to have a day for those who have served.
"It is fantastic, it is a huge community. Every time someone comes into the brewery we find that they have some connection to veterans. Through family, friends, neighbors, work. So it is a great opportunity for everyone to come out and recognize veterans from every era from World War II to present day," said Ryan.
We will have live coverage of the parade starting at 10:30 a.m., so if you can't make it out to the parade route, then you can watch it all live on WTOC-TV and live streaming on wtoc.com.
