2016 Preservation Awards winners honored

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - The Historic Savannah Foundation kicked off its fifth annual Savannah Preservation Festival on Thursday with the 2016 Preservation Awards at the Savannah Golf Club.

The awards recognize individuals and organizations demonstrating excellence in historic preservation. Awards are judge on quality of work, degree of difficulty and the positive impacts the project brings to the surrounding community.

"These are the standard barriers. If we can put them up on a pedestal, we can encourage others to follow their good example," said Daniel Carey, President, CEO, Historic Savannah Foundation. "We're closing down the street. We're going to have exhibitors and exhibits, games for the kids, interactive things like black-smithing and window-glazing; highly technical, but still fun things to do for everyone."
