SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - Five teens were arrested for having guns and taking pictures with them in Daffin Park.

Metro police say four of them were under the age of 18.

Police wouldn't specifically speak about this case and the guns they found, and the several rounds of ammunition found, but they did talk about keeping guns out of the hands of children in general.

They say the teens were taking pictures with four handguns, a rifle, marijuana and several rounds of miscellaneous ammunition and even concealing them in their waistbands.  And this is a park where children frequent very often especially during the summer.

Cpl. Samantha Stephens says if your child will be hanging with other kids make sure you know whether or not their parents have a gun.

"Parents need to be proactive and have knowledge of where their kids are and knowledge of who their kids are hanging with. Make sure to do all they can do to protect them. Teach them that If they notice these things lying around, whether visiting or in public, if they see a gun they need to make themselves safe first and notify an adult immediately," said Cpl. Stephens.

Cpl. Stephens added to make sure you don't leave guns in cars.

"Wayne" who lives in the area, says it's a shame that kids are endangering other kids at a place he likes to come and relax.

He says it's sad that they're finding excitement in something so reckless, but he thinks if the community comes together as role models, we can save the troubled youth in Savannah.

"These kids need something constructive to do with themselves instead of things that can only bring detriment to them, and ruin their future. It takes a village to raise a kid so we need everybody to participate, not just law enforcement but parents and the community," said Wayne, lives near Daffin Park.

All five teens were arrested.

Jason Hazel, 18, is charged with carrying a concealed firearm, possession of marijuana and possession of a drug related object.   The other four, two 17 and two 16, also face weapon charges.
