SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) - A new book detailing the restoration process of the World War II B-17 Bomber City of Savannah is now available.

In 2009, the author Jerry McLaughlin was appointed to project manager for the restoration efforts of the B-17 Bomber at the National Museum of the Might Eighth Air Force. Since then, he and his team of volunteers worked tirelessly for the last six years to restore the vintage warbird.

"First time I was able to go to the restoration meetings, the national restoration meeting, and say, 'look, we made this part with two sophomore students working on the thing and the technology from Gulfstream, people were blown away. We went from not knowing what we didn't know, to people coming to us to ask, 'well, how do you do that.' And that's quite an accomplishment."

The restored B-17 is currently on display at the Mighty Eighth Museum.
