Sheriff's Office investigates late night homicide on St. Helena Island

ST. HELENA ISLAND, SC (WTOC) - The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office is investigating a homicide that occurred Sunday night on St. Helena Island.
Officials say deputies responded to a report of a gunshot victim on Sam Doyle Road at approximately 10:45 p.m. Passing motorists reportedly found an unresponsive adult male with multiple gunshot wounds in the driver's seat of his vehicle. The motorists removed the male from his vehicle and performed CPR on him, until EMS arrived.
The male victim, identified as 21-year-old Marquise Singleton of St. Helena Island, was transported to the Beaufort Memorial Hospital by EMS and pronounced dead shortly after.
Evidence recovered on Sam Doyle Road leads investigators to believe the shooting occurred a short distance from where the victim was found in his vehicle, according to the Sheriff's Office.
The identity of the suspect(s) is still unknown.
A forensic autopsy of Singleton is currently underway at the Medical University of South Carolina.
