Sylvania homicide victim's family hoping to find answers
SYLVANIA, GA (WTOC) - The Sylvania Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that happened on Friday night.
Loved ones of 33-year-old Jason Young hope anyone who saw or heard something in connection with his death will come forward to explain why he died and who killed him.
Friday night, neighbors heard shots here on Hull Street and called the police.
Once on scene, they found Young shot in the carport of a house. He died within minutes.
Family members are as frustrated as police with no witnesses giving details.
Young's sister says she's hearing rumors but nobody's stepping forward. She's worried his friends are seeking revenge but she hopes not.
"Jason wasn't' about all that. He was a kind hearted, loving person," said Charlie Mae Michaels, the victim's sister. "He didn't pick fights and he didn't hang around any violent persons because he wasn't a violent person."
She knows the small circle off Hull Street had plenty of people, so someone saw something. She says this tragedy renews the pain of another shooting back in 2000 across town at a night club.
"We've already been through this losing another brother getting shot in Screven County. We don't want no family to go through what we're going through," said Michaels.
Police say they're looking at several leads, but need witnesses to come forward and help them stop the violence.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is assisting the investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to call Sylvania Police or the GBI office in Statesboro.
