SC Gov. Haley announces evacuation preparations for SC coastal communities due to threat of Hurricane Matthew

SOUTH CAROLINA (WTOC) - South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley has declared a state of emergency and is calling for all coastal South Carolina towns to evacuate in preparations for the potential threat of Hurricane Matthew.

The evacuation of coastal communities will begin at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

She announced this decision during a 3 p.m. news conference with the state Emergency Management Division.

Parris Island has also authorized evacuation of non-essential personnel.
