JESUP, GA (WTOC) - The Wayne County Sheriff's Office is investigating a double-homicide at the corner of 3rd and Bay streets in Jesup that occurred around 10 a.m. Monday.
A county worker pulled onto 3rd Street Monday morning to see a body in the yard of this home. Upon their arrival, officers found a white female in the yard and a black male inside the home that were victims of an apparent homicide.
The victims were identified as Ashley Oliver-Cobbs, 28, of Jesup, and Brad Bryant, 40, of Jesup.
Family members stood nearby remembering both as investigators scanned the block for clues.
"He was a daddy. He loved his kids. He loved his family. Police spoke with family members and neighbors through the day. They say it wasn't their first visit to this home," said Donna Boggs, the victim's aunt.
Arrested on unrelated warrants was Gary Raheem Cobbs, 34, of Jesup. Cobbs was identified as a person of interest in the investigation. On Tuesday, law enforcement stated they have charged Cobbs with two counts of malice murder, one count of burglary, one count of possession of firearm by a convicted felon and one count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in relation to this case.
"I don't want to elaborate too much on what kind of calls they went to, but we have been to this residence in the past," said Jesup Police Chief Glenn Takaki.
Investigators did say the woman had children who lived in the home, but only one was at home and was not hurt. Family members say the Cobbs had months of domestic problems since their split earlier this year and police confirm they were called several times.
This is an ongoing investigation.
