MAIT investigates fatal crash on Hwy 17 near Talmadge Bridge in SC
SOUTH CAROLINA (WTOC) - The South Carolina Highway Patrol Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating a fatal head-on collision that occurred on Highway 17 near the Talmadge Bridge in SC, around 4 a.m. Sunday.
Police say a blue pickup truck and a red four-door vehicle were involved in the crash.
We are sad to report #WTOCDaybreak anchor and reporter, Don Logana, was killed as a result of this accident.
The Back River Bridge was shut down for several hours after the crash.
Don was riding in the backseat of a 2009 Mitsubishi Galant driven by Erich Richter of Register, GA. Carlina Richter, also of Register, was in the front passenger seat and Joshua Bridges of Savannah was beside Don in the backseat. Their vehicle collided head-on with a 2000 Dodge pickup truck driven by Cleaveland Coleman of Savannah.
Erich, Carlina and Joshua were taken by EMS to Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. Cleaveland was taken to Memorial in a private vehicle.
Savannah-Chatham Metro Police, Jasper County Police, and SC Highway Patrol all responded to the scene.
The South Carolina Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is investigating the cause of the crash.
