PORT WENTWORTH, GA (WTOC) - Officials with the Georgia State Patrol and the Chatham Emergency Management Agency confirmed a serious crash happened on I-95 near mile marker 110, around 11:30 a.m. Sunday.
Troopers say 26-year old Wade Grant Tolliver, of Elgin, SC was traveling north on I-95 in a Ford pickup truck when traffic ahead of him stopped/slowed due to congestion. This caused his truck to hit a small car in front of him, which resulted in the small car also striking two other vehicles.
Nine people were injured in the four-vehicle accident. Two people were flown to the hospital and six were transported by ambulance. Four of those victim's injuries are considered serious.
Officials issued Tolliver two citations for Following Too Closely and Texting While Driving. He was not transported.
The northbound lanes of the interstate were blocked as emergency crews worked to assist the injured. All lanes reopened around 2:30 p.m.
Charges on the driver of the pickup truck are pending.
