GLENNVILLE, GA (WTOC) - A long-time company in Glennville is stepping into the future for its energy.

Mascot Pecan Company is in the midst of transitioning to solar power. The company hired Coastal Solar to install 3,400 solar panels to make up the array. Owners say the move makes more business sense in addition to being environmentally responsible.

"As the cost per kilowatt comes down, solar is becoming much more competitive as the source of electricity," said Kenny Tarver, Mascot Pecan Co.

Last year, the company used more than two- million kilowatt-hours of electricity to store its inventory.
